Folate is declared in micrograms of Dietary Folate Equivalents, shown as mcg DFE, along with a percentage of the Daily Value.
Look for folic acid in parentheses
When folic acid has been added, the label lists the amount of folic acid in parentheses after the total folate amount.
Check the source
A supplement may identify folic acid, calcium L-5-MTHF, glucosamine L-5-MTHF or another source. Review the actual label rather than relying on the product name.
Add overlapping products
Multivitamins, prenatal products, B-complex supplements, fortified cereal and enriched grain foods can all contribute folate or folic acid.
